The Swan is a great little pub on Wood Street, and was until recently surrounded by abandoned warehouses. With the investment in the city of recent years, the Swan now finds itself sandwiched between the FACT centre, a state off the art Cinema and Gallery, and the Teahouse - another exemplary example of city centre living space design, from Urban Splash
The Swan is a very traditional real ale pub, replete with wooden floors, and its clientele displays an eclectic mix of cultures such as bikers, rockers, punks and goths.
We spoke to them to find out more about the pub.

Alan is a regular at The Swan, and was kind enough to relate to us the story behind a plaque that decorates the end of the bar.
To this day, newcomers have been known to solemnly raise a pint and call a toast to the apparently deceased hero celebrated on the plaque - but the plaque commemorates an event - and it's celebrant is alive and well...
